AI Stock Market Analysis - How It Actually Works
13 min read · Updated 2 Nov 2026
"AI stock market analysis" is a category sold to retail traders with significant marketing wattage. Most of what's sold under that banner is one of three things: a research assistant (legitimate), a sentiment scorer (narrowly useful), or a price predictor (mostly fraud). Distinguishing between them is the difference between buying real productivity and buying snake oil.
This piece breaks AI stock market analysis into its three real buckets. We explain what each does, what it's worth, and where Unfluke's AI sits in that taxonomy - as a research and strategy assistant, not a price predictor.
The three buckets of AI stock analysis
- 1. Fundamentals AI - LLMs that read filings, answer questions about companies, summarise earnings calls, compare ratios. The most genuinely useful category for retail.
- 2. Sentiment AI - models that score news, social media, and transcripts for sentiment. Useful as one input among many; weak as a standalone signal.
- 3. Scanner / strategy AI - translates English into scanner specs, screener filters, or backtest definitions. Productivity multiplier; not a profit generator.
Fundamentals AI - what it does well
Modern LLMs are excellent at reading and summarising structured + unstructured financial documents. A Company-Fundamentals bot can answer: "What's HUL's debt-to-equity?", "How has Infosys's ROE evolved over 5 years?", "Summarise Reliance's Q4 earnings call". Each of those takes 30 seconds vs the 10-20 minutes of opening Screener / annual report / earnings transcript by hand. This is genuine retail productivity. Unfluke's Company Fundamentals bot covers exactly this for NSE listed names.
Sentiment AI - useful narrowly
Sentiment scoring on news flow and earnings transcripts is real and well-studied. The limitations: most models are trained on English-language financial text and miss Indian context (Hindi sources, broker reports). Sarcasm and irony are routinely misread. And as a standalone signal, sentiment is laggy. Where sentiment AI helps: as a confirmation input ("don't trade long if sentiment on this name is strongly negative this week").
Scanner and strategy translation AI
The use case: instead of clicking through 12 dropdowns to build a scanner, you type "midcaps with ROE > 18%, P/E < 25, RSI(14) crossed above 60". The AI returns a runnable scanner. Same pattern for backtests: "Test a Bank Nifty short straddle, 9:20 entry, 3:20 exit, 30% combined SL" → a runnable backtest spec.
This is genuine productivity for retail. It collapses the setup-time of analytical work and lowers the activation energy for trying a new idea. Unfluke ships Scanner, Fundamental Screener, Basic Backtest, Advanced Backtest, and a YouTube Strategy parser - all in this category.
What AI does NOT do - predict prices
The most-marketed application of AI in retail trading is price prediction. With near-zero exceptions, these products fail because:
- Markets are an adversarial system; profitable signals get arbitraged.
- Backtests are run on the training data, not out-of-sample.
- Sample sizes are too small to be statistically meaningful.
- Survivorship in marketing: failed models silently retired, successful periods showcased.
If a retail AI tool claims to predict prices reliably, treat it as marketing fiction until proven otherwise. The bar is: verifiable 3+ year out-of-sample track record, transparent methodology, no hidden picks-and-pans.
AI for Indian markets - what's different
Indian markets have less English-language financial coverage than US markets (though this is improving fast). LLMs trained primarily on US filings often miss nuance on Indian companies. For the most useful Indian-market AI applications - fundamentals Q&A, scanner translation, backtest translation - the AI needs to be trained or fine-tuned on Indian-market data. Sentiment AI on Indian content specifically is still a developing area.
How to use AI in your stock analysis workflow
- Yes: as a research compressor - read filings, summarise calls, extract ratios.
- Yes: as a setup builder - translate ideas into scanner specs and backtest specs.
- Yes: as a sanity-checker - paste a trade journal and ask "what's the most common mistake here?".
- No: as a buy/sell signal.
- No: as a substitute for understandingwhy your strategy works.
- No: as anything you trade blindly.
What Unfluke's AI does
Six bot types covering research and strategy translation: Company Fundamentals, Fundamental Screener, Scanner, Basic Backtest, Advanced Backtest, and YouTube Strategy parser. No price prediction. No "buy this stock" output. Free tier includes 5 AI messages a month.
Strategy ideas (ideas, not promises)
These are ideas to study, paper-trade and backtest, not recommendations or signals, and not a promise of any result. AI analysis summarises information; it cannot tell you what the market will do. Size, entries, exits and risk are your own decisions.
1. Fundamentals first, then check the source
- Idea: ask the assistant to compare two companies on revenue growth, margins or debt.
- Check: confirm the figures on the fundamentals pages before relying on the comparison.
2. Translate the idea, then test it
- Idea: describe a setup in plain words and let the AI turn it into a scan or a backtest.
- Invalidation: if the backtest with costs does not hold up, the idea is the problem, not the wording.
3. Sentiment as one input only
Use news or sentiment summaries to explain a move you already see in price and volume, not as a reason to trade on their own.
How to test these
For each AI-assisted idea, write down the rule, backtest it on Unfluke, and compare the result with the same rule written by hand.
Honest caveats
AI compresses time and surfaces ideas. It doesn't replace judgment. Every AI output is a draft, not a decision. And no AI software predicts markets reliably. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
